Who is speaking? A headstone speaks for the whole family, so it should not be one child's private voice. A card speaks to one grieving person. A caption speaks for you.

Making a Quote Sound Like Her

The quotes above are starting points. Two small edits turn a borrowed line into one that belongs to your mother.

Add one specific thing. "Home was wherever she was" is fine. "Home was wherever she was, usually the kitchen" is hers. The specific detail is what makes people who knew her nod.

Use her name for herself. If everyone called her Nan, Mama, or Bev, the quote should too. "Mom" is the search term, not necessarily the word.

And if none of them fit, write the plainest true sentence you can. "She was kind to everyone and we miss her" has stood on more gravestones than any poem, for good reason.
