Life
Ludwig van Beethoven bridged the Classical and Romantic eras and wrote some of the most enduring music ever composed — nine symphonies, 32 piano sonatas, the Missa Solemnis. He continued composing after losing his hearing, premiering the Ninth Symphony when he could no longer hear the orchestra or the thunderous applause. He died in Vienna in 1827.
